Calypso at the famous Maria's Beach
During the World Contest in 1968 at Maria's Beach, the so called
"hippies" set up tents behind the house of Doña Maria. Next to Maria's is
a surfbreak called "Dogmans", named for an old man who lived in front of the
break. He had long white hair and beard, and used to walk with his dogs,
collecting coconuts in a burlap bag. He and Doña Maria are remembered fondly by all
who knew them. It is unique characters like Dogman, and many others like him
that created the unique atmosphere of Calypso Tropical Bar.
